Conference
The
MCPI Annual Conference is a yearly two-day activity of MCPI
members with the Council’s institutional partners and
allies. The 2009 MCPI Annual Conference was held at the
Century Park Hotel in Manila last May 12 to 13.
The theme
for this year's conference was Understanding the Crisis:
Gearing Up for Recovery. Dr. Cayetano Paderanga from the UP
School of Economics, and Chairman of the Institute
for Development and Econometric Analysis, Inc. delivered
a presentation on how the global financial crisis
developed and how it made its way to the Philippines.
Two MFI
clients -- Dolores Banaag of CARD and Cloudy Rain
Buendia of TSPI, also shared to the plenary how the
global economic developments has become a concern for
their microbusinesses and what they do to cope.
Three (3) MFIs - Bangko Kabayan, Kasagana Ka and Paglaum
Multipurpose Cooperative - likewise imparted to the
assembly how the crisis affect their clients and
borrowers and eventually the workings of the MFIs.
Finally,
leaders from social investor institutions discussed the
impacts and prospects for the industry amidst and beyond
the crisis.
